Notes:
From the book "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" by Ralph B. Strassburger
and William J. Hinke, published in 1934 by the Pennsylvania German Society,
Norristown, PA. Vol 1, page 146.

List of Switzers, who arrived in Philadelphia, on the ship called
"Mercury", Captain William Wilson, qualified May 29, 1735,
Jacob Motsinger, age 37
Felix Motsinger, age 8

No mother is mentioned. Evidently she died in Europe or on her way
over to America. The father, Jacob, and his son Felix lived in
Mancungy, corrupted from the Indian, "Machsitunschi", the feeding
place of the bears. Being located, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. Amongst
the first members of Lutheran congregation, 1745 Heidelberg church was
Jonas Matzinger. This is poor translation and should have been Jacob.
Heidlsberg township was formed, Bucks Co., Penn June 16, 1743.
Northampton county formed 1752. THe township was then formed March 2,
1753 as Heidleberg township in Northampton. It is known that the
original Jacob gave generously to the building of the original. On
the froming of LeHigh county it was then within it's area.

The progenitor is not found after 1762. He could have died from
natural causes or have been killed by the Indians.

The Indian massacres, which from 1755 to 1758 devasted all the
settlements across the LeHigh, at Gnadenhutten (how Leghighton) and in
Lynn, both on the right and left of the Heidlenerg settlement, passed
by this congregation almost without leaving a trace.

David H. Gilbert version:
The Matzinger family originally came from Merthalen, Switzerland located near the Rhine River. The emigrant ancestor was Jakob Matzinger who was Christened at Merthalen, Switzerland in 1701. On ship entry list at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1735, Jakob was age 37 and his son, Felix Matzinger, was age 8. Jakob's wife, Magdalena, was his second whom he married 13 May 1734; but, the mother of his children, Margaretha Fisler,
he had married in February, 1723.

Felix Motsinger was married in Pennsylvania and his first wife died there. In 1765, Felix purchased land in North Carolina on both sides of the Drains of Abbotts Creek located in Rowan County, NC from Joshua and Dorothy Teague. Felix later owned 1200 acres of land. In 1790, Felix married Elizabeth, widow of John Long, a Revolutionary War Soldier by whom she had four children. Felix Motsinger died in 1791 before the birth of his son, Felix Jackson Motsinger, who was born in the fall of 1791 in Rowan County, North Carolina.

Felix Jackson Motsinger and his mother moved to Ohio in 1800 and his grandmother was buried on Guinea Pike, according to Felix's Bible records.

Rex Finley:
The Swiss records show that Magdel. Mantz was the wife of Jacob Matzinger, but not the mother of his children. Swiss wives of this time period continued to use their maiden surname after marriage.
