Henry Murphy Dead
Henry Murphy died Sunday about 8 o'clock at this home in the city after several years of illness from rheumatism. The deceased was a son of A.T. Murphy, a retired merchant of Cuba, and was born on a farm west of town July 24 1867. His father leaving the farm, Henry learned the carpenter trade and was for many years engaged in contracting work here. He removed to Harvey,
IL in 1892. He did not stay there very long, returning to Cuba where he resided until the spring of 1907, when failing health compelled him to give up his work and thinking that a change of climate would benefit him, he sold his property here and removed to Colvilt,e WA. About three years ago the rheumatic trouble that had bothered him for years became so bad that he lost the use of his lower limbs, since which time he had been practically helpless. Last August, thing that the old home and association with the relatives might benefit him, the family returned to Cuba to live, but he was too far gone to be benefitted by any change.
Nov 30 1890 Mr. Murphy was married to Miss Anna J. Brown and to this union 4 children were born, 3 daughters and one son. They are Lera, Bernice, Nellie, and Laurel, all of whom with the wife and mother survive. Besides wife and children Mr. Murphy leaves a father, A.T. Murphy of this city, 4 sisters, Mrs. George R. Herbert, Mrs. Frank G. Hill, Mrs. W. P. Smith of Cuba and Mrs. Gration G. Moss of Canton and one brother Chas. R. Murphy of Avon.
Though a very quiet unassuming man, Henry Murphy had a large circle of friends and the respect of the entire community and his death will be greatly deplored by all men who knew him, both as a friend and as a businessman. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Monday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.B. Oliver, and burial was in Cuba Cemetery.
He was a carpenter by trade and there are still homes in Cuba he built. While in Chicago in 1893 he did the finishing woodwork on the only building still remaining of the 1893 World Fair in Jackson Park, The Palace of Fine Arts. Henry Murphy died Nov. 24, 1912.
