Obituary of James Harold Trayer - Shenandoah, IA newspaper James Trayer Military Rites Held Saturday
Military funeral rites were held Saturday alternoon at 3:30pm at St. John's Episcopal Church. The Rev Henry B. Rolbins conducted the services. Faylon Geist was organist and E.C. Muntzner sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery. The American Legion firing squad gave a last salute and presented to his widow the American flag which had covered the casket.
Pall bearers were Robert Ross, John Riffle, Willard Carl son, Walter Meichert, Wayne Drifimier and Robert Fishbaugh, all members of the American Legion.
Those from out-of-town for the services were Mrs. Bertha Hirsch and Harrison Bowen of Langdon, Mo., Mrs. Frank W. Bywaters and family, Mrs. Beldon Noble and family. Mrs. Lewis Doreman, John Hardy, Mrs Harry Zool;, and Jimmy Bywaters of Tarido, Mo., Mrs. Charles Hopkins and family of Hastings, Ia. Mrs. Thurman Harris and family of Glenwood, Ia., Willis Trayer and family, Jack Bowen and Ted Bowen of Council Bluffs, Ia, Mose Hopping of Hamburg, Ia., Mrs. William Bowen and Dick Bowen of Nislmabotna,, Mo., Everett Hopping, Mrs. John Harton and Mrs. Rollie Cook of Rock Port, Mo., Emil Lowe of Westboro, Mo.. and Mrs. William Craflon of Malvern, Ia.
James Harold Trayer passed away May 12, at 4:30pm at his home at 313 Clarinda Avenue at the age of 39 years.
He was born in Vermont, Illinois, June 1, 1908. and moved to Westoro, Mo.. when he was five years old. He spent most of his childhood there and was graduated from the Westboro High School in 1925.
In 1930 he moved to Tarkio, Mo., and was united in marriage to Pauline Allen, February 23, 1931. He entered the army of the United States on March 15, 1942, and received an honorable discharge Nov.20, 1942. Except for two years which he spent in Red Oak, he remained in Shenandoah until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline and two daughters, the older being Verna Mae, 15, and the younger Shirley, 13. Mr. Trayer was preceded in death by his father, James Trayer, who passed away at the age of 48 in December, 1907; two sisters, Olena who died in infancy in 1902, and Alvena, who passed away at the age of 18 in 1937.
Besides his immediate family he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bertha Hirsch ofLangdon, Mo., sisters, Mrs. Frank Bywaters of Tarkio, Mo.; Mrs. Charles Hopkins, Hastings, Ia.; Mrs. W. B. Noble, Tarkio. Mo. Mrs. T. J. Harris, Glenwood, Ia.; a brother, Willis Trayen Council Bluffs, Ia. There are many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
