Jacob Allemong, Jr. (changed name to Allamon), b. 27-Mar-1784 in Frederick County, Virginia, d. 1872 in New Salem, Pennsylvania. He was first married on 14-Apr-1808 in Pennsylvania to Elizabeth H. French, b. 9-May-1789, d. 13-Aug-1836, daughter of Enoch French and Mary McElroy. He was a blacksmith, coal miner, farmer, bridge builder, and wagon maker. He owned 40 acres of land in Mennallen Twp., Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He removed to Pennsylvania over the issue of slavery.

After the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Jacob Allemong was sent a message at New Salem, Pennsylvania. He consulted with his sons and they returned and joined the Union Army. Because of the hatred between Jacob Allemong, Jr. and his father in Frederick County, Virginia over slavery and the doctrine of the Dunkard Church, the sons chose to obey the wishes of their father on the Civil War issues.

In addition to his 18 legitimate children, he also fathered 4 consort children, three sons and a daughter. He is mentioned in his mother’s dower will as “Jacob Allemong Jr. of Virginia, now Jacob Allamon and wife Elizabeth H. of Fayette County, Pennsylvania.” He and several descendants are buried in Salem View, Presbyterian Church Cemetery, New Salem, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

He was second married on 12-Mar-1845 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania at the age of sixty to Mary Ann Frye, born 17-Oct-1817 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, died 8-Jan-1890 in New Salem, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Johnston Frye and Hester Pierce.

He was described by his son, Johnson Dearth Allaman, as being six foot eight inches tall, a man of huge stature and strength.

After the death of Elizabeth French Allamon on 13-Aug-1836 in Mennallen Twp., Fayette County, Pennsylvania, her father Enoch French appeared in court in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, stating that his daughter, Elizabeth, had wanted a divorce from her husband, Jacob Allamon, Jr., but her husband refused the request. He also testified that, “Jacob Allemong Jr. liked women too well and ‘likker’ too well.” This fact is well supported by the existence of his four consort children. Her body was finally awarded to her father, Enoch French, and she is buried between her parents in Old Dunlap cemetery.

The court petition of 12-Jul-1837, then granted guardianship of three minor children, Jane, Washington and Catherine, to their older brother, Samuel. Elizabeth’s three youngest children were awarded to foster parents and were taken to Ohio.

Jacob had hoped to disguise the existence of the four consort children. He made sure that he was the only one who made entries in the family Bible. However, his efforts were in vain, as his first-born children were old enough to know of his outside activities.
