Obituary. Paper unknown. Mrs. A.J. Hill and Mrs. Hanna B. Hill.

A sad and unusual occurrence took place in this neighborhood last
week. A home was broken up within 24 hours. A husband and son left
desolate by the death of his wife and his mother, both of whom were
stricken with pneumonia, and dying after a short illness.
Josephine Tatlock was born Aug. 3, 1864. She was married to Mr. A.J.
Hill, April 5, 1905. After a happy married life of 4 years, Josephine

Hill died April 27, 1909, having reached the ripe old age of 84 year,
leaving her companion to mourn the loss of a devoted wife.
Mrs. Hannah Brown Hill was born Feb. 20, 1825; died, April 28, 1909,
having reached the ripe old age of 84 years.
She was married to Silas Hill when about 17 years of age, and was the
mother of nine children, three of whom together with the father, ahve
preceded her over the river of death. Six children are living. They are
Sarah, Lizzie, Mike, Henry, A.J. and George, a prosperous farmer of
Daviess county. Also a step-son, Rev. John Hill, of Columbus, who was

lately elected to the legislature from Bartholomew Co. Mrfs. Hannah Hill
was a member of the Blue River Baptist Church, and was a good christain
woman.
Both bodies were conveyed to the Olive Branch church by undertaker
Callaway, April 29, where Rev. Applegate delivered the funeral oration in
the presence of a large gathering of sympathizing people and friends.
After all was over the mother and wife were laid to rest int he
cemetery at Olive Branch, in a grave prepared for each.
Much sympathy is expressed for the breaved family.

In matter pension claim No. 36182, of Hannah Hill, mother of Thomas Hill
private Company "G", 18th Reg't, Indiana Volunteers. Personally appeared
before me, Clerk of the Circut Court in and for the aforesaid county.

Hannah Hill, claimant, who being duly sworn deposes as follows:
My age 64 years. Postoffice address was Farabee, Indiana. My husband's
name was Silas Hill, he died March 21st 1883. Thomas J. Hill, Soldier,
was the son of Silas Hill and myself. My husband had his thigh broke and
it made that lefg shorter than the other leg, so much that it made a
cripple of him. He could not do work, where walking was required. He

was a cripple in 1861 when our son died in the service. Thomas was our
oldest son, he did the most of the work on the ffarm, under the
supervision of his father. I depended upon him for our support, for he
was the only child at that time old enough to do much work. The other

boys did some work, but they were too young to work much. In 1861, my

husband had 120 acres land. It was poor land and we could not by close
living get more off of it than the family could use. It was worth
perhaps $1000. We had but little personal property, two cows and horses
in 1861, and some household furniture, take together was worth about
$250. From 1861 up to time I file my claim we had about the same amount
of property each year. I know that we had a hard time to live, our
living was usually scanty. I never remarried since the death of my
husband in 1883. I will give the
