Dearmend-Joseph 24 farmer born-PA -Cynthia E. 19 born-Ill. -Mayday 1 born-Ill. John Dearmond son of John Dearmond and Elizabeth Campbell. She wes born in Ireland the daughter of William Campbell and Nancy McMullen. John DeArmend father John born 1804 Northumberland county Pa. In 1813 Co]umbiana formed, along with his father in another county. He is first found 1840 census for Liberty Twp., listed apart from his father and with his own family. He was living in or near Danville when his father Michael Dearmond died, his mother beinc Hester McMahon. Sometime after 1840, the father removed to Ill., where he apparently followed the pursuit of farming. He may have first settled in Sangamon county but if so, did not tarry there long as he was living in Fulton county when he died, Feb-20-1828. He married in Pa. Elizabeth Campbell. Since her father settled near Canton, Ill. about 1848, it is possible that his removal there from Pa. was occassioned by the widowhood of his daughter and probably that they made their home together afterwards. The date of her death is not known but Cora May Dearmorn Davidson says the Elizabeth spent the winter 1884 in Cora May's fathers home and was 76 years old that year. She enjoyed her cup oF tea and made tomato preserves usingt sorghum molasses. The Dearmend family moved to near Cherokee, Oklahoma after the Indian Lands were open to settlers about 1889. ===================== 1870 Census Buckheart Twp 168-161 John Dearmomd 29 farmer, born -PA Lettie Dearmond 19 , born-KY 169-162 Buckheart Twp. Wife: Lettie Lucy JOHNSON |
Born: 20 APR 1851 in Maysville, KY Notes: A little resume on our grandmother, Letty Lucy Johnson Dearmond. Following their Marriage, Mr & Mrs Dearmond continued to live in Illinois until about 1893 when they came to Barber county until the opening of the Cherokee Strip. At the time of the opening Mr Dearmond made the race for staking a claim and was sucessful. He made homestaed entyr and final proof upon the claim which was their home until the time of death. I remember the little house Grandma lived in and especially the dug-out which was mostly underguund, it was a treat to us kids when Aunt Millie would let us go down in there. I still remember how it smelled there, not at all unpleasant, quote by Loveta. Grandma Dearmond pioneered in four states, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. No one save those who lived in a new country and became the common heritage of the present generation. To have weathered the storms and the strifes, the trials and the vicissitudes of four new countrys marks one with distinction and crowns efforts with sucess. The life of our grandmother Dearmond was long and beautiful. The fact she could live more then 86 years, bring life a progeny numbering more than a hundred souls, keep faith with God and man and her family, makes her one of the most distinguished of persons. Mrs Dearmond our grandmother became a Christian at age 18 years of age, was a member of the Church of Christ; therefore, for more than 68 years she walked the pathway of righteousness, and this with an indomitable courage and an irrepressible will, makes clear the secret of her long and sucessful life. Letty Lucy Dearmond died Dec-28-1937. John Wesley Dearmond died in 1910 Our Grandpa. Grandma Dearmond took Frankie Richardson into her home as a very small child and reared him to manhood after his mother, Jennie died. Frankie and Millie did all the farm work and Later Frankie married and lived in the a littlehouse a short distance from Grandma's house for quite some time. -- From the Files of D.B.
