Obituary:  Todd - Entered into rest on Friday, March 9, 1917, L. J. Todd at his home, [obscured] at the age of 67 years after a lingering illness. [Obscured] was the beloved husband of Rhoda Todd, dear father of Roy L. Todd, Mrs. Daisy Henry and Mrs. Beulah Black and our dear father-in-law and grandfather.    Funeral from Ogden Chapel 3140 Easton Avenue, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, East St. Louis.

Notes:
I have nothing to base this on, but my guess is that the families were poor. Washington County is known for its lead mines, which could indicate social class. The J.L. Todd's moved from Potosi to St. Louis. I know that my Todd-Henry link was in St. Louis area and that those families were poor, which keeps with the theme. My grandfather left St. Louis looking for work. I don't know where the Henry's came from, but a (deceased) genealogist cousin from my mother's side (not the Todd-Henry side) seemed to think the Henry's were from KY and there is a heavy concentration of Henrys in Lexington, KY. I can't find the source (again), but I seem to remember seeing that Moses Todd was born in KY - I thought it was on a Census, but I haven't looked at the source material to confirm. Given that he married Maria Carnes at age 38, implies that he could have had a wife (and perhaps children) in Kentucky, before relocating to MO. Are his first four children (Joseph, Mary, Jonas and Malinda) , born before the Carnes marriage in 1838 from this first marriage? Perhaps this speculated first wife died after arriving in MO? (Census indicates that Joseph Todd, b. 1827 and Mary Todd, b. 1830 were born in MO.) This also indicates that he could have been in his mid-twenties before leaving KY. Going on the tradition that there is a relationship to Mary Todd Lincoln, the Kentucky connection could be in Lexington. Interesting speculation: Henry's from Lexington & Todd's from Lexington? Knowing that people tend to stay within their class and ethnecity, even after relocating, it could be possible. Where the Mary Todd Lincoln/Lexington connection theory breaks down is in the social classes. The Mary Todd Lincoln family was upper crust, while it appears that our Todd's were not. It doesn't mean that our Todd's weren't from Lexington, but if there is a Lincoln connection, it is probably going to be hard to prove.
