Wife: Edith Mabel MOTSINGER |
Born: 06 MAR 1882 in Canton, Fulton Co., IL Notes: Mabel Motsinger married Otis Roswell Wood son of Forbes Wood and Mary Ann Rodenbaugh of Buckheart Twp. Otis Wood died Feb-22-1958 of a stroke and of cancer. Both are buried in Greenwood cemetary, Canton, Ill. Mr Wood lived on the old Forbes Wood farm for 22 years. His father built this home himself from trees on the farm and he made the square nails for the home. It once stood across from the old Fulton county Nursing home. This area was stripped many years ago by coal company. The pictures of the Forbes Wood home is in my possession (D.B. Allaman) having been given to the compiler by Mrs Otis Wood many years ago. Otis Wood moved his family to Norris, Ill. where he farmed few years, then moved to Galesburg, Ill. Uncle Otis then worked on the old CB&Q Railroad for 39 years. He was kind loving man and member of the United Brethem church now called United Methodist church. His wife was organist for the church for 39 years, having been taught by First Christian Church organist of Canton Ill. Aunt Mabel had a lovely voice and for many years she sang in her church choir and for other churches. She was hard working woman and raised a large family by also working outside her home. I was always close to this family and when I was very young they visited often in our home. Many times we went to their home and I especially remember a watermelon feast held in their home. Uncle Otis was Christian but would joke with clean talking. He & Aunt Mabel celebrated theri 50th wedding anniversary. She was especially close to her niece, Mrs Mary Peek. |
