David Motsinger was the youngest son of Michael Henry Motsinger and Barbara Gilstrap Motsinger. He was born 15 Mar 1840 in Canton Twp, Fulton Co., Illinois and died at Wallace Co., Kansas, buried in Norcatur, Decatur Co., Kansas.

Married Mary Ann Humphrey (Hall), the daughter of Jessie Humphrey and Elizabeth Grenstead. She was born 27 Mar 1838 at Barren Co., Kentucky and died 25 Mar 1907 at Norcatur, Kansas. She was first married to William Hall and they had one child, Jessie Lewis Hall.

David had eleven brothers and sisters and he was the youngest son and being the only child at home in 1858, he accompanied his parents to Richardson Co., Nebraska, where they opened 160 acres of land near the present village of Elnore. Being energetic, he followed farming and with a friend, purchased on of the first steam thrashers in the country. He was successful in wheat and fruit farming.

Shortly after the Civil War, he went to Idaho looking for gold. In this he was successful.

In 1868 when the Courthouse was created in Richardson Co., Ne, the parents deeded the land to David and he later deeded the land out and returned to Fulton Co., where he rented the former farm of Thomas A. Wolf for 2 1/2 years.

About this time he married Mary Ann Humphrey Hall. Mary Ann was first married to William Hall and they had one son, Jessie Lewis Hall.

David and Mary Ann had six children, a son and a daughter, Michael Henry and Addie Ellen, born in Fulton Co. With two children and step-son Jesse, they moved to Richardson Co., Nebraska. Four children born there.

When the youngest child, Hiram Fred was two years old, the family moved to Norcatur, Kansas where they reared their family and lived the remainder of their lives. Both are buried at Norcatur , NE. For a time they operated a boarding - rooming house in Norcatur.
