"George Janes, our hustling butcher has harvested a fine lot of ice the past week. The ice being nearly nine inches thick, he filled his ice house to its full capacity.

George Janes purchased the Variety store here of Don Elliott. He is moving the contents of same into his grocery store. George expects to put a price on these goods that will move them right along, give him a call.

Don't forget to go to Janes store for your groceries and tin ware.

Mrs. Hopping of Union Chapel neighborhood has been visiting her daughter Mrs. George Janes the past week."

Died: 11 JAN 1971 in Galesburg, Knox Co., IL  Obituary reads:    Abingdon - Mrs. Anna Oliver, 77 of 302 North Main, Abingdon, died at 9:45a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Hospital, Galesburg.    Mrs. Oliver had been a resident of Abingdon for 35 years and was a member of the Christian Church of Summum.    Born in Ipava Jan.24, 1893 to George and Malinda (Hopping) Janes. She was first married to Edward Hoke in 1913. He died and she married Fred Oliver. He died in 1929.    Surviving are three sons,. Harry I. Hoke, of Canton, George M. Oliver and Dale A. Oliver, both of Abingdon: one brother, John E. Janes of Galesburg: and seven grandchildren.    Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Larson Funeral Home, Abingdon with the Rev. Donald Hagan officiating.
