Alleman Family Cemetery

Alleman Family Cemetery
West of Bellegrove, North Annville Twp.
Lebanon County, PA

The descent of the Alleman family on this farm was Leonard Alleman to his son Elias. Elias' sons all died and his daughter, Mary, married David Snoke. Their children died and the farm was passed onto David's grandson Adam Snoke. Adam Snoke passed the farm to his son Mahlon Snoke. Mahlon Snoke's daughter and I were best friends through high school. I hadn't been interested in my past at that point in time. I put an answer in genforum on the Snoke name and one of Mahlon's grandaughter's sent me an e-mail with the farm on it.  Her father inherited the farm from his dad, Mahlon and they lived on the farm for several years before they sold it.

At this point in time the only thing original on the farm is the cemetery. The new owner tore down the big two story house and built a ranch house and the barn burned down several years ago. My son says he remembers when it burned. I don't.

Pat Snoke, the granddaughter, told me a story her grandfather told her about the cemetery.  There were 4 brothers. Each was told to build a wall around the cemetery. Three of the sons did as they were told but the fourth was lazy and never built his wall so the cemetery only ever had three walls around it. At one time the cemetery had as many as 25 stones on it but over the years the groundhogs have dug around in it until all of the stones were buried except for Leonard's and his wife Anna Mayer.

The family who lives on the farm now is named Baer. Mrs Baer became interested in the Alleman family because her daughter needed a project for her girl scout troop and they decided to do some restoration to the cemetery. I have no idea how much they have done. We were in contact through our e-mails but like many friends on e-mail you often lose touch. So it is with Jill and me.
