Five Revolutionary Ancestors

The five ancestors of Floy Wiltrout Horn of Holmes County, Ohio. This is a brief outline of the history of these ancestors as compiled and contributed by Mrs Elizabeth S.McCorkle, Ashland, Ohio. Mrs McCorkle, a genealogist, has much material on these five soldiers and their history may be published.

Frederick Shutt (Schott,Shoat,Schutt),a Rev. War soldier m 12/15/1760, Maria Esther Oderman, and had among others:  Philip Jacob Shutt. also a Rev.War soldier, b near Harrisburg,Pa., 11/11/1761. He m. Margaret Alleman and had Philip Shutt b 1/26/1797,d 1/24/1876; m Elizabeth Sheafer b 11/1/1794 who d 6/21/1847.They had: Susanna Shutt b 2/23/1828,Jackson twp., Wayne Co.,Ohio and died 7/11/1916.

John Frederick Christian Alleman, a Rev.War soldier, b 1734, son of Jacob Alleman. Jacob Aleman and son Jacob migrated to America from Europe in 1741. In 1753 three more sons of Jacob Sr,sailed from Hamburg on the ship "Leathley". Sons John Christian, John Frederick Christian and Hiram. They were French Huguenots. John F.C.Alleman m Rachel ? They lived in Middletown,Pa. He and two sons were Rev.War soldiers. Their daughter Margaret (or Magdalena) b 3/26/1765, d Aug. 1831. She m Philip J. Shutt (above).

William Priest,a Rev. War soldier,possiblY b in Culpeper Co.,Va. His brother Jeremiah, also a Rev. War soldier b in Shenandoah Co.,Va. William m Elizabeth Hankey and they had Hankey Priest, soldier of War of 1812, b 10/5/1783, m 8/23/1821 in Fairfield Co.,O. to Delila Meeker. Hankey d 5/10/1862, Polk,O. Delila d 3/18/1864,Wayne Co.,O. Had: Eliza Priest b 5/26/1827, m 2/23/1846 to Jonas Wiltrout  (1825-1846). She d 1907 in Ashland,O. Elizabeth,the widow of William Priest m 2nd Jacob Heiffner, 3/4/1828, a Rev. War soldier and widower and lived Orange twp.,Richland         Co.,O. William d 6/2/1821. Elizabeth d 5/6/1861, age 91yrs.

Jacob Shidler,a Rev. War soldier,son of Jacob Shidler b in Hannau, Germany in 1710, to America 1730,possibly to Frederick Co. Md.,where his wife Margaret Nave lived. Both d in Pa.Their son Jacob m 2/15/1775,Katrina Hoonen and had:Daniel b 9/23/1787, d 3/18/1864,Wayne Co.,O.,m Elizabeth Addleman  b Greene Co.,Pa., d 1/31/1867,Wayne Co.,O. Had: Hartman Horn Shidler b 9/13/1826,Wash. Co.,Pa.,d 5/16/1907, m Susanna Shutt b 2/23/1828, Jackson twp.,Wayne Co.,O.;d 7/11/1916.(Eliz.Addleman dau.of John Addleman,1769-1828 and wife Cath.   2. Henry b 3/15/1759, d 2/28/1829, m Julianna Long of Lebanon Co.,Pa.; both bur. in Lower Swartara,near Ebenezer Church. Had: Henry (m Cath. Rudy); David (m Miss Shelly); l.Wayne Co.,O.;Samuel (m.Eliz.Barnhagt);Rachel (m Michael Barnhart); Elizabeth (m Jacob Dubbs) l.Franklin,Pa.
  3. Catherine b 2/14/1761, m Kreighbaum, lived near Canton,O.
  4. Leonard b 12/12/1763, d 9/14/1832, m Anna Mayer(?), i. Annville twp., Lebanon Co.,Pa. Bur.on farm there. Had: among others: Magdalena b 2/26/1789 d 4/18/1830; John b 9/9/1795 d 1/1/1819; Catherin; Leonard b 12/1/1799 d 1/22/1869; Benjamin(twin) b 12/1/1799 d 8/17/1871  (m Sarah Sager b 1824 d 1886).

  6. Margaret (or Magdalena) b 3/26/1765, d Aug.1831, m Philip J. Shutt, Had: John Jacob Shutt b 3/29/1790,d 7/26/1836; Catherine Eliz. b 5/7/1792, d 1/28/1863; Margaret some times called Rebecca; Philip b 1/26/1797, d 1/24/1876, m Ist Eliz. Shaefer, b 11/1/1784 prob. Centre Co.,Pa., d 6/21/1847; bur Red Haw Cemetery in Ohio. He m 2nd Christine Fritch, a widow b in 1803. Philip bur. Uniontown, Stark Co.,O.,Green;awn Cem. Philip & Elizabeth had 10 children. Margaret m 2nd George Stine(Stein),had Mary b I/5/1804,d 1875.

 SHUTT DESCENDANTS

The children of Frederick and Maria (Oderman) Shutt:

  1. Philip Jacob b 11/11/1761, d 3/20/1802,m Margaret Alleman.and had children (see above).
  2. Anna Marie (Mary) b 7/4/1763, m J. or G. Buchs.
  3. Frederick.
  4. Christina.
  5. Esther.
  6. Ludwig died April 1802.
  7. John died April 1802.
  8. Catherine.

Philip Jacob, Ludwig and John died of yellow fever. Philip Jacob d in Centre Co., Pa., bur. in Lutheran & Reformed Cemetery, Rebersburg, Pa. Wife Margaret possibly bur. beside him but no record. Margaret's will written Aug.5,1828, will be found in Centre Co., Pa. courthouse, Orphans Court. The Rev. War record of Philip Shoat will be found in Pa. State Capitol, Division of Records; and the military record of Frederick Shutt will be found in Penna. Archives, Series 5, Vol.7, pp 732 & 767.

The children of Philip Shutt, Jr. and wife Elizabeth Shafer:

  1. George b 12/6/1819, d 3/17/1891.
  2. John b 9/18/1821, d 9/25/1876.
  3. Margaret b 7/15/1826?, d 5/15/1883.
  4. Joseph died young.
  5. Sally died young.
  6. Susanna b 2/13/1828, d 7/11/1916. m Hartman Shidler.
  7. Lydia Ann b 1/7/1830, d Oct. 1887.
  8. Malinda b 11/28/1831, d Oct. 1890.
  9. Andrew b 1/1/1834, d 8/25/1890.
  10. Catherine b April 1835, d 9/23/1900.

This Shutt family was noted for their musical ability. Floy A.Wiltrout Horn who helped compile this family history inherited this musical ability, both vocal and instrumental.

SHIDLER DESCENDANTS

The children of John Shidler and wife Margaret Nave were:

  1. Jacob m 2/15/1775 Katrina Hoonen.    A Revolutionary soldier.
  2. Henry b 1/28/1744, d 2/13/1830, m Margaret Barkley(Berkley)  8/12/1759. A Revolutionary soldier.
  3. Peter A Revolutionary soldier.
  4. John m Katherine Wise. A Revolutionary soldier.
  5. George A Revolutionary soldier.

  Jacob Shidler and wife Katrina Hoonen had:

         John b 1/7/1776, d 1/19/1857.

         Jacob b 12/16/1779, d 10/1/1855.

         Daniel b 9/23/1787, d 3/18/1864. He came from Washington Co., Pa. to Holmes Co., O., thence to Ashland Co., O. He m Elizabeth Adelman in Penna. They lived 1st near Ten Mile Creek, Pa. They are bur. in Lucas Cem Wayne Co., O., near their home in Perry twp. Ashland Co., O. They had:

  • Jacob b 11/23/1819, d 10/23/1866.
  • Catherine b 8/28/1822, m Peter Newcomer.
  • William b 7/26/1824, d 12/23/1847.
  • Hartman Horn b 9/13/1826, d 5/16/1907.
  • John b 5/24/1828, d 7/31/1869.
  • Sarah d 12/23/1847.

     Hartman Horn Shidler & wife Susanna Shutt had:

    • Clarles William b 8/29/1856, m Mary Berky.

PRIEST DESCENDANTS

The children of William Priest and wife Elizabeth Hankey were:

1. Moses ( a Moses Heifner m Mary Hartman in Richland Co.1830). 2. John (could be the one who deserted his family).

3. Ibbie (Elizabeth) m John Heiffner, son of Jacob Heiffner.

4. Hankey b 5/10/1783, d 10/5/1862. War of 1812 soldier. He m 8/24/1821 Delila Meeker. He was drafted in Fairfield Co.,O. They were m at her father's home in Bloom twp. Fairfield Co.,O. Parents of Delila unknown. A Jacob Meeker and an Amos Meeker were in Fairfield Co.,O. in 1820 census, possibly from N.J. or conn.  Hankey Priest and wife Delila Meeker had:

         Eliza b 5/6/1827, d 1907, m Jonas Wiltrout 2/26/1846. Buried in Ashland Cemetery. Katherine b 11/29/1829 died young. Sarah b 4/20/1832, d 2/10/1902. Mary Ann b 2/25/1835. Nancy Jane b 3/6/1838.

        Andrew J. b 8/21/1840, d 7/25/1899. Ephriam b 4/8/1843 died young. Allen b 10/5/1845, d 1937.

            Lincoln Wiltrout b 3/31/1859, Ashland Co.,O. m to Ida I. Shidler b II/20/1863;d 7/3/1949, Ashland,O. He d 6/6/1930. They had: Floy Allen Wiltrout b 4/2/1890; m 12/29/1927,Lloyd J.Horn. Shed Wooster,O.,1962.

 

    FLOY WILTROUT HORN was the only child of Jonas & Eliza Priest Wiltrout. She filled her life to the last with worthy achievements. She was the possessor of a naturally true and beautiful voice and played the cello. Her talents took her over all the states. Their only child Robert died young.
